A new report by sector skills council, Skills for Care, says the adult social care workforce could double to 2.5 million by 2025. The report, The State of the Adult Social Care Workforce, reveals that an 80 per cent increase in trained staff will be needed to meet future demand.

Andrea Rowe, Head of Skills for Care is acutely aware of the training implications: "This scenario clearly has implications for how this massively increased workforce is funded and the training they will need to meet to meet the challenges and opportunities greater choice presents. This massive hike in the workforce makes it imperative that we have the frameworks in place to offer the best training possible to hundreds of thousands of new workers coming in to the sector."

Online learning programmes such as Care Academy, will no doubt play a large part in tackling the training challenge.
